ENGLISH
Che, fueye and duende “che” addresses the instrument like a friend. Fueye is a colloquial form of “bellows”, the part that moves air through the bandoneon. Duende names its expressive power: the music seems to understand pain that talking cannot resolve.
Calico, rayon and shrouds calico is a cotton fabric; rayon, an artificial fiber. Between them, the lyric traces a passage from everyday life toward death. Shrouds are cloths that wrap the dead. Estercita recalls “Milonguita”, and Mimí reappears in “Griseta”: tango converses with other stories told in song.
Glass by glass, tango by tango the repetition turns the night into an accumulating confession. The bandoneon does not erase memory: it brings it back in its tears. “Cinchando” suggests straining and struggling, like the friend who went under in the storm of love.
The soul offside “orsai” adapts the English word offside. In popular speech it means being left out of position, in a difficult spot. Applied to the soul, it turns a football position into an image of emotional helplessness.
