My beloved Buenos Aires, when I see you again, there will be no more sorrow or oblivion.

The little streetlamp on the street where I was born was the sentinel of my promises of love; beneath its quiet little light I saw her, my girl, radiant as the sun. Today, as fortune wishes me to see you again, city of Buenos Aires, my one and only love, and I hear the lament of a bandoneon, within my chest my heart begs to be set free.

My Buenos Aires, flowering land where I shall end my life. Under your shelter there are no disappointments; the years fly by, the pain is forgotten. In a caravan memories pass, leaving a trail sweet with emotion. I want you to know that when I recall you, sorrows leave my heart.

The little window on my street in the outskirts, where a young girl in bloom smiles, I want to look upon it once again, upon those eyes that caress with their gaze. In the roughest little lane a song utters its plea of courage and passion, a promise and a sigh; that singing wiped away a tear of sorrow.

ENGLISH

“Pebeta”, “cortada” and “maleva” “pebeta” is a young woman; “cortada”, a short street or passage. “Maleva” evokes the world of the outskirts' tough characters. The city is remembered through small places, voices and affection.

“Pide rienda el corazón” transfers a horse-riding image to desire: the heart wants freedom to move forward. It is not just joy, but a feeling that overflows the body.

A city that protects the lyric makes Buenos Aires a listener and a refuge. The promise that pain will disappear there belongs to an idealised memory; the bandoneon and the little window join city and love.
