A milonga to keep from crying this work is a milonga, with music by Sebastián Piana. The narrator turns lament into song: “sentimental” does not erase the genre's movement, but places it in the service of a wound in love.
Manhood and forgiveness “a man” is repeated as an assertion of character. Courage shifts from revenge to wishing well to the woman who left. “A woman's betrayal” is the explanation the character uses for comfort; the lyric also says he never learned why.
The leather thongs of an infatuation tientos are leather strips used for tying; metejón means an intense infatuation. The heart becomes a post to which affection remains tethered. Slashing seems easy; cutting that inner bond is far harder. The ending moves between wanting her to return and needing to say no.
