I received your last letter, in which you told me: "I advise you to forget me, everything between us has died. I ask only for my portrait and all my letters; you know it is not right for you to keep even those." Today you admit the wrongdoing, you are afraid I might speak... might tell the one you know of our intimate friendship; I am a man of honor, I will not betray you, I am not capable of scheming! I understand that if I spoke, I would shatter your happiness.

But you will not deny that when you were mine, you said you loved me, that you would not forget me; and, blinded by affection, you kissed me on the mouth as though you were mad... Thirsting, darling, for love.

I have no objection to sending you all that, yet, even if you do not want it, something of yours must remain. The emptiness you left and the warmth of those kisses, you know well that I can never give them back to you. I do it for your sake, to avoid compromising you, I sacrifice my affection for your family name and your honor; I resign myself to my lot, since that is what fate wished, but remember me well, for I do this out of love for you!

Apellido y honor Apellido y honor remiten a reputación y reconocimiento social.

ENGLISH

A letter inside the song The opening reproduces her voice through a letter; he then replies. The title comes from her request to be forgotten. This form lets us hear two positions, although his response dominates the account and the woman does not answer again.

Portrait, letters and memory The portrait and letters can be returned because they are objects. Emptiness and the warmth of kisses cannot: separation leaves an experience that no agreement can erase. The lyrics contrast material evidence of the relationship with emotional traces.

No te vendo Here vender means to betray or disclose a secret, rather than make a literal sale. “The one you know” suggests another person without identifying them. The character says he will not speak because it would shatter her happiness; pride and renunciation mix in his answer.

Family name and honor Family name and honor point to reputation and social standing. The protagonist presents his silence as a loving sacrifice and proof of manhood. The song lets us hear that code of values through his voice, without requiring us to accept it as a rule for judging people.
